Can you please give me your brief introduction?
Candide
Hi, I’m Candide from Lyon, France. I’m 21 and I’m working in Singapore as an intern from July to December 2019.
Aki
What are your duties on a day-to-day basis?
Candide
My internship is in Business Development so one of my main goal is to find new clients for my company. I usually send emails and/or call the potential clients in order to sell our services. My other goal is to find suitable candidates for the different inquiries of our clients as I’m working in a Recruitment company. On a day-to-day basis I basically post job advertisements on the different job portals and then I select the suitable candidates among all the applicants. I also have to interview them and then I send their profile to the client. Sometimes I have to do some digital marketing tasks like updating our social media.

Why did you choose Singapore for your internship?
Candide
I wanted to do my internship in an English-speaking country so I could improve my English. Also I had already been to Asia before and I really liked the people, the culture, the weather and the food so I was happy to go back there. Singapore is a global business hub and as a student I thought it could be interesting to work in a fast-paced environment. Singapore was also a futuristic city in my opinion, so I was excited to go there.

What is your plan after this internship?
Candide
I will go back to school and complete my Master. I will graduate in 2022 and then I plan to start a career abroad, maybe I will come back to Asia. Doing an internship in Singapore taught me how to work and deal with people from different backgrounds. It’s interesting because we all have different points of view.

Could you present Singapore to further interns?
Candide
Singapore is a great place to stay as the weather is warm all the yearlong. You can enjoy the Asian weather without the mosquitos! It feels comfortable to live in Singapore because the transport is efficient, cheap and so clean! In Singapore, people are from all over the world: China, India, UK, USA, Germany, France, Philippines… The official language is English so you can easily talk to everyone. Singapore is full of business opportunities. What I like the most in Singapore is the fact that you have the central business district with very high buildings and only 20 minutes from this central area you will find a beautiful and paradise beach in Sentosa. Also, the location of Singapore makes it really easy to travel in Asia. Even for only 2 days during the weekend for example you can go to Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia… So many places to explore! The only disadvantage of Singapore is the cost of living which is quite high.
